Javier Torices

Born in Madrid on 25 October 1968. A contemporary realist painter with four decades of career. He lives and works in Madrid, from where he travels constantly to different coastlines in search of the light and force of the sea that inspire his work.

He began his training in the art studio of his father, Ramón González, a pupil of D. Nicolás Prado López, Artistic Director of the School of Arts and Crafts of Granada. He continued his studies with D. Antonio Zarco Fortes in Priego de Córdoba.

He began painting professionally with his father at the age of 14. In 1996 he took part in his first live-painting competition in Madrid’s Retiro Park — where he discovered the potential of acrylic paint and developed a technique combining precision and fluidity.
His travels to New York and Venice marked a turning point: water began to play an ever greater role in his work, pushing the city into the background. There he discovered his true passion: painting water and the sea in a realist style.
His work has travelled from Madrid to Hangzhou and to the Hoki Museum in Japan, taking in fairs such as Art Madrid, Art Marbella and DonostiArtean, and galleries that are a reference for contemporary Spanish realism. More than 30,000 people visited his retrospective Origen at Casa de Vacas del Retiro (Madrid, 2022).
