Thalasso: The Healing Power of the Horizon

By Javier Torices

There is a moment in front of the sea when the noise of daily life fades away. A moment when the horizon stops being a mere geographical line and becomes a mirror of inner calm. From this search came Thalasso, a body of work presented at the Aurora Vigil-Escalera gallery in Gijón in December 2025, conceived not just as an aesthetic representation of the ocean, but as an experience of reconnection and well-being.

Since antiquity, thalassotherapy has recognized the healing properties of seawater, the ion-rich breeze, and the vastness of the ocean. In Thalasso, I translated that energy into paint, texture, and light. The exhibition offered a visual and emotional journey that flowed from the overwhelming power of moving waves to the absolute serenity of a still surface.

Through the density of acrylics, delicate glazes, and the grounding balance of the straight horizon, each painting invited the viewer to pause, breathe, and immerse themselves in the restorative essence of the ocean. Thalasso was, ultimately, an invitation to reclaim tranquility through the power of art.
