The Force of the Cantabrian Sea at Madrid’s Casa de Vacas

News Coverage by Televisión Pública de Asturias (TPA) | Origen Exhibition (2022)

Public TV of Asturias (TPA) featured a special news report on the major retrospective Origen, held at the iconic Casa de Vacas cultural center in Madrid’s El Retiro Park. The broadcast highlights how the exhibition brought a piece of the Cantabrian Sea to the capital through large-scale works that serve as authentic windows opening onto the ocean.

The report emphasizes over 20 years of artistic career dedicated to capturing marine majesty, underscoring the strong presence of the northern sea—a result of a close collaboration with the Gijón-based gallery Aurora Vigil-Escalera. As Javier Torices noted during the broadcast: “For me, the Cantabrian Sea represents strength, much like the Atlantic. In my painting, I place great emphasis on the transparency of light passing through the wave. The interplay of light and texture is what gives meaning to this work.”

The audiovisual coverage characterizes the proposal as a moving experience where hyperrealism does not seek mere photographic reproduction, but rather to cross the boundary between the artwork and the viewer. An immersive journey comprising 32 works that tackle the untamed force of the waves, the undertow, and the vibration of light across the water’s surface, establishing this exhibition as a landmark milestone in his career.
